Big thanks to Nick and to Monica for organizing the Community Fun Day on Blenheim Square! Although rain stopped play, the children played games, ran races and had free food and drink – a great time was had by all. Special thanks too to Nick’s friends from St. George’s, who helped with the games and face & nail painting; to Ishmael and his friends for putting up the football net and teaching the youngsters how to score goals; to members of All Souls’ and Debre Sibhat congregations for providing the food. Same time next year? (Maybe July, actually…..)

Worship Week beginning 07/08/2011

It was great to welcome Maisie for her baptism on Sunday. What a user-friendly baby! A pleasure, too, to have all her family and friends support her so joyfully. Mass was offered in the Lady Chapel on Monday evening, and will be again on Saturday 10th at 10:00. All welcome.

Baptism and Confirmation 2010 – photos!

On July 11th Bishop John led a service of baptism and confirmation. 2 young people were confirmed; 3 young people were baptized AND confirmed; 2 adults were baptized and confirmed. Anthems were sung by the All Souls’ Singers, by the Church Lads’ and Church Girls’ Brigade, and by the Music Group of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church. After the service an All Souls’ Feast was held: members of the congregation brought food from their own cultures for all to share. Barbadian, English, Ethiopian, Kittitian, Nevisian and Scottish treats were enjoyed.

Children’s Confirmation Class

The class for children and young people continues on Thursday at 6pm in Church, followed by the Church Lads’ and Church Girls’ Brigade in the Undercroft from 6:45pm to 8pm.

Brigade Pancakes for Shrove Tuesday

The Church Lads’ and Church Girls’ Brigade will be making pancakes at 18:30 in All Souls’ Undercroft. Children of any age (0-100+) welcome. Access through the side door at the bottom of the church, half way down the carpark. Knock loudly!! – door kept shut for the children’s safety.

Candlemas ~ All Souls’ Anniversary Mass and Feast!

All welcome! Bring some food to share – but if you forget, come anyway, there’s always plenty.

On Sunday 31st January we will celebrate the 130th anniversary of consecration of the building; the 1st anniversary of the current body of All Souls, Priest and People together; the Feast of Candlemas, when we leave Christmas behind and begin to look towards Easter. All through Epiphany the Gospel readings have shown us manifestations (epiphanies) of Jesus Christ – that he was not an ordinary baby but the Son of God. Candlemas really takes the ‘not just for Christmas’ of Jesus seriously, and points us towards Easter, to his death and resurrection. Christ was born for this.

A retiring collection will be taken for Christian Aid’s Haiti appeal.

Christingle 2009!

All Souls’ Nativity Play 2009

On December 13th, a dozen children~ from the Church Lads’ and Church Girls’ Brigade and from the All Souls Congregation took part in the Nativity Play. It was solemn but not starchy, and broke the austerity of Advent to give us a glimpse of the promise of Christmas ~ a sweet treat, if you like. Candy Canes were shared out over coffee as a symbol of Christmas sweetness.

The Nativity Play 2009

The Nativity Play for 2009 will take place on Sunday December 16th during the 11:00 Mass ~ All Welcome!

Children and Adults will take part in a simple Nativity Tableau, accompanied by carols sung by the congregation and played by the deputy organist, Isaac Agyeman. The All Souls’ Singers will sing the carol ‘Where go ye now?’ and there will be a Sweet Treat with the post-worship coffee and juice.
