The ornate font-cover in the baptistry was painted by Emily Ford, a member of the congregation in the 1890s. Ms Ford (had the term ‘Ms’ been around in her day) was a member of a Quaker family, who were involved both in the Abolition of the Slave Trade and in Women’s Suffrage (votes for women). [...]
